I have 3 cockatiels, named Rocky, Ernie & Aggie. I call Aggie she, because he's very feminine, but he's really a he! The story of how I ended up with 3 cockatiels is pretty funny.
Once upon a time, I had a cockatiel named Hootie. She was my first, and I let her wings get too long. Hootie always sat on my shoulder when I was home. One day, doing housework, I went out on the patio and - you guessed it - Hootie took off. I was devastated, and ran an ad in the paper.
I didn't hear anything all week, but on Sunday
my beeper went off, when I called a nice lady said she had my bird. I went
off on a run with my cat carrier (makes great transport), but alas, it
wasn't Hootie. However the finder had 2 cats, and no interest in having
a bird, and I had an empty cage, so..... that's how I got Rocky.I went
home, got him settled and an hour later, the beeper went off again. Very
nice lady said she thought she had my bird, off I ran, and this bird was
freaked out, the woman's 2 Rottweilers had 'discovered' him out in the
yard, and he
was flying around her living room with a fully mirrored cathedral
wall - beating his brains out! We managed to catch him, I brought him home,
when he calmed down I realized he wasn't Hootie, and that's how I got Ernie.
About 2 weeks later, a friend was out partying
and ended up at this a**hole's house. He had a baby cockatiel, about 4
months old, he'd abused the poor little guy,
biting 3 of his claws off,
leaving him out on the carport roof over night (in November!), etc, etc.
Well, my friend said, "You don't get to keep this bird", and
that's how I got Aggie. She (see above) is the sweetest thing, loves to
cuddle and whistles 'Charge!'.
